My first sale!

Jay, a colleague at work requested an ami elephant after she saw a picture of the piggy I made as they are her favourite animal. So I reworked my piggy pattern to include a trunk (with a pipe cleaner inside so it can be posed), taller legs, big round ears and a plaited tail. I think it came out very well and I wanted to keep it again but I just of how it was a commission and I would be getting paid to part with it. I asked for £4 because that's how much people seem to charge on Etsy but Jay said that wasn't enough and I deserved more for it and came back with £10! =D

I'm going to make my own crochet box!

I'm making a hell of a mess with all my things spilling out of 2 buckling cardboard boxes, yarn all over every room in the house, losing hooks and buttons left, right and centre. I need a big sewing box.

The inspiration:

But sewing boxes are far too small and far too expensive. Though some are admittedly very pretty and cute. I need to make my own.

Useful Tricks

I was moaning the other day about how decreases are really obvious and it looks terrible and I didn't know what to do about it, well look what I found:

It really works!

And apparently I won't know what I did with the Magic Ring once I master it, which I've yet to do.

This website has amazing eyes for amigurumi:

Edit: Finally cracked the magic ring with the help of this MUCH better video! It really is easy and so useful now I can do it =D

TARDIS

I was asked by my sister to crochet something for her best friend, Katy as she loved the ami cactus I made for Genie. She suggested something Doctor Who related as it's one of Katy's favourites. I looked up what people had already made on that theme and found this:

I adore the Dalek! The little doll house accessories are so clever. But Genie preferred the TARDIS so I looked up cute patterns and found this:   http://close-encounters-crocheted-kind.blogspot.com/2011/03/dr-who-tardis-police-box-amigurumi.html

I am such a good sister

I made this for Genie to cheer her up during her exams. It's a cactus she can't kill =P
It seems to have warmed her to crochet too.

Edit: She called it Ty, as in cacti.

Thank you

I made this for my grandma's friend that gave me her mother's old crochet stuff as a thank you. It's just polite and I thought she'd appreciate seeing how much I've learnt to make with it already so I crocheted a flower to adorn the card =) I think it turned out really well and I hope she likes it.

Leaf pattern adapted from this: http://crochethealingandraymond.wordpress.com/2011/01/04/a-crochet-leaf/ as I couldn't follow it.

Learning the stitches

Books are of no help to me it seems. The only way I understood how to do stitches was when my mum remembered them and I watched her do them. I've been practising single crochet, double crochet and treble crochet. They're actually not difficult once you understand them but the terminology is! Especially since the Americans have to change everything.

Getting started...

My mum claims to not remember how to crochet but says it might come back to her -it better! My grandma popped round yesterday and gave me some really old crochet hooks. She said she told a friend about me (:S) and the woman kindly decided to pass her mother's old crochet stuff on to me. Today I dragged my mum to a new craft shop, Inspirations....

I've decided to learn to crochet!

I've recently discovered some artists who create amazing work with crochet! I don't really know anything about crochet, I know a little about knitting as my Grandma unsuccessfully tried to teach me when I was little, but seeing what can be done with it has inspired me to give it a go. My grandparents came to visit me at uni and my grandma told me that my mum crocheted lots of things for me and my sister when we were babies so I'm hoping she remembers how to do it!
